Explore the interconnected world of Engineering as you participate in practical experiments and problem-solving challenges.
Designed for 15-17-year-old international students, this summer programme is for those who already have an interest in Engineering, as well as those who want to explore it for the first time. Our expert science teacher draws from concepts typically introduced in GCSE and iGCSE maths and physics.
By the end of this course, you'll have a solid foundation of engineering principles and be well-prepared to tackle the complex challenges of our increasingly technology-driven world.
Each week, you'll investigate a different topic, applying theoretical knowledge through practical challenges:
Momentum
Build and test model roller coasters to explore key physics concepts like kinetic and potential energy, velocity, acceleration, and momentum. Use the principles of conservation of energy to analyse how height and mass influence the speed and motion of your roller coaster as it moves through loops, turns, and drops. Collect data and use the results to understand real-world applications in engineering and transportation systems.
Bridges and Structures Challenge
Design and construct model bridges or towers using basic materials to investigate structural integrity and load-bearing principles. Apply physics concepts such as tension, compression, and equilibrium to evaluate your structure's performance, analysing how forces interact in real-world engineering projects.
Water Filtration Systems
Engineer a working water filtration system to explore fluid dynamics. Test different designs to improve efficiency, drawing connections to real-world applications in environmental engineering and sustainable resource management. Analyse your results to understand the physics behind the flow of liquids and the effectiveness of filtration techniques.
This programme equips you with essential skills for understanding and excelling in foundations in Engineering, positioning you for success in higher education and beyond.
