QUEEN'S GATE

The course takes place at Baden Powell House (corner of Queen's Gate and Cromwell Road), just 5 minutes' walk from Gloucester Road and South Kensington Underground stations. The air-conditioned building has spacious classrooms and a safe, outdoor roof terrace.

NON-RESIDENTIAL DAY COURSES

JUNIORS: 7 - 13 years | FULL DAY

Levels: beginner* to upper intermediate


* Beginner classes subject to availability
  • 09:00-17:00h Monday - Friday
  • 20 hours' tuition per week including English Skills, English Workshops and end-of-week presentation
  • English Workshops e.g. Animation, British Comics, Drama, Pop-Up Storybooks, Rocket Design and more!
  • Maximum class size: 14 students
  • A highlight of the week is the study visit with your teacher to one of the Kensington museums (Science, Natural History, V&A), a short walk away
  • Cold 'picnic' lunch included in the fees (e.g. sandwich, fruit, cereal bar, drink)
  • Afternoon activities, led in English, include arts & crafts, games on the terrace, team-building activities, traditional sports days in Kensington Gardens (10 minutes' walk away)
  • On Friday afternoons parents are invited to attend the end-of-week English Workshop presentations

ACADEMIC PROGRAMME


English Skills

Before you arrive, you'll be sent our written placement test. On arrival, you'll be given a written and oral test and placed into an English Skills class appropriate for your age and level

Improve core skills, technical accuracy and enhance spoken fluency through stimulating and collaborative sessions e.g. Write a postcard to your friends about your visit to London

Focus on phonics for low level learners - learn to read confidently!


English Workshops

In these fun, task based sessions, you'll explore new topic areas. Learn through researching, discussing, collaborating and creating

Workshop topics vary week to week e.g. Animation, British Comics, Drama, Recycled Art, Rocket Design and more!

Design your own characters, create a new world and write a comic

  • Use new vocabulary linked to books and comics
  • Explore classic British comics
  • Develop your ability to write and tell a story

Learn how to write, produce and perform in a short play!

ACADEMIC PROGRAMME

A typical week at Queen's Gate

  • You will be sent a written placement test to do online before arrival
  • On Monday morning you'll be given an oral test and placed in the correct level class
  • Museum visits take place on Wednesdays
  • During the museum visit you'll research information related to your Engish Skills classes
  • You'll work with other students in small, multi-national groups to complete weekly English Workshop
  • On Fridays your parents are invited to the English Workshop presentations. You'll gain confidence, develop presentation skills and share your learning with your family
  • The following week you will work on different topics and develop a new set of skills
  • A little homework is set each day
  • When you finish the course, you'll receive an end-of-course report, Discovery Summer certificate and class photo.
